“When a Film Raises $41,000 in a Single Evening”

Client: Love The Hill // Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Project: Fundraising Film

Some projects you take because they pay well. Some you take because they matter.

The Hill Farm project was the second kind.

Love the Hill is a nonprofit operating in the heart of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Their vision for The Hill Farm was straightforward and quietly radical: put a real working farm in the middle of an urban neighborhood. Grow food to give away. Give dozens of school kids a place to see animals, plant vegetables, and understand where their meals come from. Build something that feeds the body and the imagination at the same time.

When they came to Covert Film they needed something that could walk into a room full of donors and make them feel the weight of what was being built, in less than ten minutes, before the ask.

That's a very specific kind of filmmaking. It's not a commercial. It's not a highlight reel. It's a documentary built to move people at a precise moment, in a precise context, toward a precise action.

We spent time with the people behind the project, the founders, the volunteers, the kids. And built a film that traces The Hill Farm from inception to impact.

The film screened at Love the Hill's annual fundraising event.

During the presentation, donors gave $41,000.

The average gift increased from $340 the prior year to $460, a 35% jump. And while the room had fewer donors than the year before, the total raised still grew by over 10%.

Fewer people. More money. Because the story made them feel something they couldn't ignore.

This is what documentary-style filmmaking does that nothing else can. It doesn't ask people to care. It builds the conditions where caring becomes inevitable.

If your organization has a story worth telling — and a moment where that story needs to land — let's talk about what the right film could do for you.
